Scientists from the Warsaw University of Technology (PW) have developed a solution that will help forecast the development of the COVID-19 pandemic. An article on this topic was published in the journal Nature Scientific Reports.

According to Warsaw University of Technology, the aim of the project was to work out a methodology for modeling the development of a pandemic at the regional level. It would help in building a decision support system in the field of social distancing.

“We wanted to be able to answer in a hard way, using mathematical models, creating simulation systems, how the change of constraints can affect the course of the COVID-19 pandemic – explains Prof. Robert Olszewski from the Faculty of Geodesy and Cartography of the Warsaw University of Technology, project manager.

The results of the research contributed to preventing the development of subsequent phases of the pandemic. The introduction of social distance and limitation of mobility is of key importance for its inhibition.
