Warsaw University to open the Laboratory of Eastern European Archaeology

On 24 January 2024, the Faculty of Archaeology at the University of Warsaw (UW) held the official opening of the Laboratory of Eastern European Archaeology (PAEW). Researchers will collaborate with, among others, researchers from Ukraine and Belarus.

The main activities of the PAEW will be aimed at the development of scientific contacts between the Faculty of Archaeology at the UW and scientific institutions or individual scholars from Eastern Europe, as well as substantive support for research conducted by Eastern European archaeologists, participation in research projects and archaeological fieldwork in Eastern Europe (inventory of war losses, preservation of monuments, excavation work, etc.).

The PAEW of the UW will bring together researchers working in three scientific directions in Eastern European archaeology: the archaeology of the Roman period and the migration of peoples, the finds of ancient coins and issues related to the archaeology of ancient Ruthenia.
