Researchers at the Faculty of Social Sciences (WNS) at the University of Gdansk are conducting a pilot study entitled ‘Dog at WNS’. This is part of a wider interdisciplinary research project ‘Couple and Dog. Relationships and interspecies bonds in private life and public space’.
‘We want to answer the question of how we could open the university to the presence of other species, so that a space of coexistence is created, respecting the well-being of all participants. Through this pilot we will find out how it is for us with dogs and for dogs with us. We hope this will allow us to find optimal solutions for interspecies relations”, says Dr Magdalena Gajewska from the WNS.
The aim of the study is to identify the needs of dog owners, but also the needs of dogs. It is also important to understand how the presence of dogs is perceived by other students and faculty members. The pilot will result in the preparation of proposed procedures/recommendations to enable students and their charges to come to WNS together.
