Scientists from the pharmaceutical department of the Medical University in Wrocław are working on creating a gene test to assess the risk of developing dementia. The test will support the correct diagnosis of dementia and the selection of the treatment method for the patient.
The assumption of the project, co-financed by the Regional Operational Program of the Lower Silesia Voivodship, is to create and confirm the diagnostic effectiveness of a genetic test including the analysis of 42 polymorphisms located in the human genome. They influence the risk of some dementia diseases and modify the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of drugs used in their therapies.
The developed test will support the correct diagnosis of dementia and the appropriate selection of the treatment regimen tailored to the physiology of the sick person. The test will be based on the Real Time PCR technique. The project is carried out jointly with Amplicon company.
