The design of the estate in Dubai by Joanna Wnuczek from the architecture department of the Wrocław University of Technology was awarded in the international competition MultiComfort House Student Contest.
It was already the 14th competition, organized by Saint-Gobain with the support of Dubai Municipality and Dubai Properties Group. Its participants were to prepare an architectural and urban design of a model housing estate on the coast of Al Jaddaf bay in Dubai. 50 works from 28 countries were qualified for the finals.
The designs had to fit into the architectural trend embedded in local traditions. The authors also had to take into account the weather conditions in Dubai. In summer, the average temperature is over 40 degrees Celsius, and the hot climate is accompanied by a sharp wind, causing sandstorms. In her project, a Wrocław student used spacious terraces referring to the eastern architecture, glass facades of buildings and traditional wind towers – wind catchers.
