Wrocław University of Science and Technology to develop autonomous multitasking platform

14.09.2020

Young scientists from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the Wrocław University of Science and Technology are creating the autonomous multi-tasking platform Krab. It is a walking robot that will be able to transport about 100 kg of cargo, and being equipped with additional elements, it can also perform other tasks.

The robot will move autonomously, avoiding obstacles and detecting human presence. It will use thermal imaging camera, ambient scanner and laser rangefinder. It will be able to be used for military tasks, e.g. for patrolling, transport, enemy detection and targeting, as well as for civil transport and rescue needs – e.g. searching for victims in buildings.

The Krab has been created thanks to funding from the research program for the defense and security of the state “Future technologies for defense – Young Scientists Competition”. The funds were allocated by the Ministry of National Defense, and the organizational issues of the program were handled by the National Center for Research and Development.
