Wrocław University of Science and Technology to print specialist connectors for protective masks

09.04.2020

Employees and students of the Wrocław University of Science and Technology are producing connectors enabling the connection of disposable filters to reusable protective masks. Original filters are very expensive and their number is very limited.

The question about the possibility of making a connector that would allow the connection of disposable filters to reusable masks was researched by doctors of the 4th Military Clinical Hospital in Wrocław.

– First, we prepared a prototype made in Fused Filament Fabrication technology. After several conversations with doctors, we optimized the model and adapted it to the Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) technology, which allows the production of connectors from ABS material and ensures productivity at the level of about 200 pieces of connectors for one manufacturing process – says Dr Eng. Tomasz Kurzynowski, Prof. of Wroclaw University of Science and Technology.
This is the second element (after protective helmets) of protective equipment for doctors developed at the university.
