Young Polish scientists against limiting the European Union budget for science

15.09.2020

The Academy of Young Scholars of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN) is appealing to the Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland and Members of the European Parliament to defend research funding in the European Union budget.

Young scientists are protesting against the restriction of funding for the Horizon Europe program. They encourage “to join the appeal of all those who understand the importance of scientific research for the development of Poland and Europe and to maintain their position in the world”.

According to the decisions of the extraordinary European Council summit in July 2020, the budget for research in 2021-2027 has been significantly reduced. Among others, funding for the Horizon Europe Excellent Science program was reduced.

“The European Union is facing increasingly difficult civilization challenges, including the ongoing fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, and science plays a fundamental role in the crisis situation” – emphasize scientists associated at the Academy of Young Scientists at the General Assembly of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
