Krzysztof Nowicki, PhD student and employee of the Institute of Computer Science of the University of Wrocław, received the Witold Lipski Award granted to young Polish scientists for achievements in the field of computer science and its applications.
In his scientific work, the laureate deals with algorithms for parallel and distributed computing models. He is particularly interested in models in which the input data of the problem is divided among a number of machines that perform calculations in synchronous rounds.
– Each round consists of a local calculation phase and a communication phase. The main measure of the complexity of the algorithms operating in such models is the number of rounds needed to solve the algorithmic problem under consideration – says Nowicki.
The Witold Lipski Award was established by the Computer Science Development Foundation, in cooperation with the Polish Association for Calculating Machines (the Polish branch of ACM) and the Polish Information Technology Society.
