The 54th scientific and research season of the International Interdisciplinary Archaeological Expedition of the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań “Novae” on the site of the Roman legion camp and early Byzantine city of Novae in northern Bulgaria has come to an end.

As a result of the study work carried out in the urban development quarter, a set of rooms differing from those discovered so far, both in terms of construction and layout. According to the researchers, an analysis of historical events and the archaeological data so far leads to the hypothesis that we are dealing here with a residence intended for a person of high rank, probably the king of the Goths, Theodoric the Great.

In the course of the research carried out between 2003 and 2011 by the ‘Novae’ expedition on the ancient city, the history and architecture of the early Christian bishop’s complex (4th to 6th century) and the Roman grand legion bath (2nd to 4th century) were completed.
