Three Polish research teams are winners of a competition organized by the BiodivERsA network.

The jury of the competition assessed 234 international research applications and awarded 21 projects with funding of over EUR 25.5 million.

The winning projects, which will be implemented with the participation of Polish research teams, include: “Pathogenic Vibrio bacteria in the waters of the Baltic Sea now and in the future: alleviating the problem”. Polish team leader: Dr Marcin Rakowski, Sea Fisheries Institute – National Research Institute. Project will be realized with partners from Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Lithuania, Germany and Sweden.

“Irrigation of peatlands in a nitrogen-polluted environment: Synergies and trade-offs between biodiversity, climate, water quality protection and society”. Polish team leader: Dr Wiktor Henryk Kotowski, University of Warsaw. Project will be realized with partners from Austria, Belgium, Finland, Germany and Norway.

The project “The cultivation of perennial cereals based on nature as a model for the preservation of functional biodiversity in future agriculture” with Polish team leader Prof. Katarzyna Hrynkiewicz of the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń will be realized involving partners from Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Romania and Sweden.
