Dr Paulina Płochocka-Maude, Prof. of the Wrocław University of Science and Technology became the laureate of the Polish Intelligent Development Award 2020 for her work on perovskites, which transform solar energy into electricity in a photovoltaic cell.
The award is granted to innovators, investors and organizations whose activities influence the smart development of society and economy. The Wrocław researcher was awarded for the implementation of the projects “Excitons, phonons and polarons in semiconductor perovskites and their derivatives” and “Towards deterministic ownership control of van der Waals heterostructures”.
The aim of the first project is to understand what makes perovskites so unique and to define methods of controlling their unique properties. The second project is related to the search for new semiconductor materials whose properties will allow to process information more efficiently. Both projects were co-financed by the programs of the National Science Center.
