The scholar team led by Dr Urszula Doliwa, University of Warmia and Mazury (UWM) in Olsztyn received almost 300,000 PLN from the Ministry of Education and Science for the creation of the Monitoring Center of Internet Civic Journalism. The Center will search the activities of the grassroots media in Warmia and Mazury.

“The aim of our project is to provide visibility to media initiatives that are created from the bottom up. We intend to appreciate the creators and show them to the world. We also want to examine the needs of journalists and contribute to supporting their projects”, says Dr Urszula Doliwa.

The project, which received ministerial funding, will last two years. Civic journalists who want to talk about their work can report to scientists from the UWM team. The online catalog, which will be one of the results of the project, will include basic data on individual civic media, as well as the local saturation index of a given medium (calculated on the basis of a combination of specific variables) and excerpts from recorded interviews.
