The Institute of Archeology of the University of Wrocław carried out comprehensive excavations in southern Mongolia. They were concentrated in the area of the Gobi Altai massif and the adjacent edge of the Gobi Desert.

The research concerned the development of prehistoric communities in south-central Mongolia and their adaptation to changing environmental conditions. In addition to archaeologists (including experts in the field of non-invasive archeology), specialists in geology, petrography and topography participated in them.

During the field work, excavations were carried out within four late Palaeolithic camps located directly at the shoreline of the lakes, existing here in the Pleistocene and early Holocene.

Researchers discovered a cave site with intact layers from the Paleolithic period. This is a kind of scientific sensation, and the analyzes carried out will allow for a number of findings regarding the paleolithic communities of this part of Asia.
