The Minister of Education and Science co-financed the project “Chronica Polonorum of Maciej from Miechów – translation and edition”, headed by prof. Sławomir Zonenberg from the University of Kazimierz Wielki in Bydgoszcz. The grant was awarded under the National Program for the Development of Humanities – informs the university.
2019 marked the 500th anniversary of the first edition of “Chronica Polonorum” by Maciej of Miechów. The chronicle is one of the most important sources in the history of Poland for the years 1480-1506. The chronicle, in addition to the historical layer, also contains a lot of information in the field of cultural history, medicine, ethnography and historical geography.
The project is conceived as a research, translation and editorial endeavor. Its main goal is to prepare a book containing an edition of the Latin text of the chronicle and its Polish translation, along with critical commentaries: on source studies, philology, history and history and culture.
