Researchers from the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University (UMCS) in Lublin will develop the “Historical Atlas of Polish Towns: Kazimierz Dolny, Puławy, Wąwolnica”, which is a continuation of the European publishing series Historic Towns Atlases, carried out under the auspices of the International Commission for the History of Towns. 

More than 530 town atlases from 18 countries have been published as part of the European series. So far, 46 Polish towns have been published, and five more are in the process of being compiled.

For this project, researchers from Lublin received more than PLN 925 000 from the National Programme for the Development of the Humanities in the module ‘National Heritage’.

The aim of the project, prepared by an interdepartmental team of employees from the Department of Geomatics and Cartography and the Institute of History of the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University, is to prepare a new methodology for developing atlases in the face of a complex and uncertain source base.
