Researcher from Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń awarded in a prestigious competition

Dr Sebastian Mikołajczak, Professor at the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń’s Faculty of Fine Arts, has been awarded the prestigious international Van der Veen/Teylers Museum Prize for the Contemporary Art Medal.

Awarded once every five years, the prize aims to honour artists with a significant medallic output whose work is considered promising. It consists of the opportunity to present one’s work in an exhibition, the publication of a catalogue accompanying the exhibition and a financial award.

The laureate is a research and teaching staff member at the Faculty of Fine Arts. He works in sculpture, installation, medallion making and coin design. He cooperates with the Mint of Poland and designs collector and circulation coins for the National Bank of Poland and foreign issuers. Sebastian Mikołajczak has presented his works at numerous individual, national and international exhibitions. He has been awarded prizes and distinctions in the field of medal making and coin art.
