Prof Adam Grajcar from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the Silesian University of Technology has received a grant for research into the fracture toughness of modern multiphase steels. The project will be conducted with a partner from Germany – RWTH Aachen University.

The aim of the project is to develop advanced medium-manganese steels of the Quenching and Partitioning type combining high strength, ductility and fracture toughness under static, dynamic and fatigue loading conditions, which will be produced using an energy-efficient forging process.

The value of the project “Improving the fracture toughness of medium-manganese steels for forgings operating under static, dynamic and cyclic loading conditions using dispersion residual austenite stabilised by element redistribution” is more than one million PLN. The German side has additionally secured more than €315,000 for this project from the DFG – German Research Foundation.
