Polish scientists take part in the hunt for dark matter

27.02.2018

Scientists from the Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences and the Jagiellonian University researched the properties of axions, hypothetical particles of dark matter.

– If the axions exist – summarized Dr. Adam Kozela from the Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences, – there are fewer and fewer places in theoretical models where they could hide.

The pioneer of the discovery of dark matter was the Polish astronomer Marian Kowalski. In 1859 he noticed that movements of stars close to us cannot be explained only by the movement of the Sun. The universe has almost 5.5 times more dark than ordinary matter. Its nature remains unknown. (Kp)
