The ‘Anthology of Turkish Poetry’, stolen from there in 1964-1977, has returned to the collection of the University Library in Wrocław. The manuscript has returned to its parent collection thanks to the restitution efforts of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, the university reports.
“The Anthology of Turkish Poetry, with historical reference M. 1538 is a 16th-century collection of poetic works by many authors, primarily in Turkish, as well as Arabic. The works were written on ribbed paper decorated with floral watermarks in two columns of 17 lines per page.
The stolen work was to be auctioned in Vienna. This is the second manuscript from the Wrocław University Library recovered in recent months. In March, a medieval manuscript with the writings of Marcus Tullius Cicero was returned to Wrocław. Both works were returned by their previous owners.
