Researchers from the Wrocław University of Science and Technology and the University of Porto and the University of Coimbra from Portugal are starting work on a new technology for the production of composite reinforcing bars and anchors, which will be competitive with commonly used steel reinforcing bars.
Work on a new generation of composite rods for concrete and soil reinforcement is possible thanks to a grant from the National Center for Research and Development. The scientists are striving to develop elements that will be more competitive and cheaper than existing composite rods and anchors.
The developed products will have a new, multi-layered structure guaranteeing a progressive method of destruction during critical loading and providing the structure security. The new interdisciplinary team of chemists, materials engineers, mechanics and construction engineers will be working out the new technology.
