Academy of Physical Education (AWF) in Poznań to launch campaign for enlisting traditional Polish dance onto the UNESCO list of cultural heritage of humanity

16.02.2021

The campaign for enlisting the polonaise – traditional Polish dance – on the UNESCO list of intangible cultural heritage of humanity is underway. The first stage is the collection of signatures, which will last until the end of February. The Academy of Physical Education (AWF) in Poznań is actively involved in the campaign.

The Polonaise – as an important element of Polish culture – was enlisted on the UNESCO national list of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2019. This year, on the initiative of the Polish Section of the International Association of Folk Artists and Festivals at UNESCO and the Institute of Music and Dance of the Cracovia Danza Court Ballet, they started the efforts to be enlisted onto the world list.

Soon, the university is planning a series of actions promoting the polonaise to show that this dance is worth entering the UNESCO World List, and that it should not only be remembered, but – most importantly – that it should be kept dancing!
