A Polish-German group of designers with the participation of architects from the Warsaw University of Technology won the “Product Designer of the Year” award for the design of the Sunglider solar railway in the New York Product Design Awards competition.
The line with 3D-printed carriages covered with solar cells is fully supplied with energy obtained on its roofs. It is controlled by artificial intelligence. Ultimately, traveling by train could be completely free.
The Polish team, led by Dr arch. Ewelina Gawell from Warsaw University of Technology, dealt with shaping the architecture of the roof, which is the supporting structure of the railway and its individual stations.
The roof is completely covered with photovoltaic panels to obtain the maximum amount of solar energy.
The New York Product Design Awards honors talented product designers, design teams and manufacturers from around the world whose designs have made everyday life so much better with practical and imaginative creations.
