Researchers from the Wrocław University of Technology have developed a digital consultation platform with a cytological image recognition system. The solution is expected to help recognise cancer cells and facilitate the exchange of information between doctors.

Pathomorphological diagnosis of cancer, i.e. the detection of cancer cells, is a key stage in the development of the treatment process. Previous methods have involved the use of microscopic imaging, supplementary staining or selected molecular biology techniques. The rapid development of technology has led to the emergence of digital images, and scientists from the Wrocław University of Science and Technology decided to use artificial intelligence to analyse them.

The algorithm developed by the Wrocław scientist will improve the diagnosis of whether a given cancer is malignant or not. The project, worth PLN 800,000, ended with the sale of the rights to use the fully operational platform to a private entrepreneur, reports the university.
