The scientific work of Prof. Dariusz Patkowski’s team from the Medical University of Wrocław (UMW) won the ‘Best of the best in pediatric surgery 2024’ competition, organised by Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center and GlobalcastMD. This means that it was recognised as the world’s best presentation in paediatric surgery 2023.

“The paper authored by our team focused on the anastomosis of an overgrown oesophagus using a thoracoscopic technique with a so-called internal traction. This is a fairly rare congenital defect; it is estimated that one child in approximately 3,500 is born with an overgrown oesophagus”, explains the head of the Department of Paediatric Surgery and Urology at the University of Warsaw, Professor Dariusz Patkowski.

The prestigious competition is organised every year and is attended by representatives of scientific societies from all over the world. Publications, previously presented at the most important international meetings of paediatric surgeons, are evaluated. This guarantees their high scientific level.
