The BioMed Lab – an interdisciplinary laboratory that will allow the development of research towards useful sensor optoelectronics for diagnostic, medical and environmental monitoring applications – will be established at Gdansk University of Technology. The project was supported by the Ministry of Education and Science (MEiN), which allocated PLN 14 million for the creation of the laboratory.

The laboratory will be equipped with specialised apparatus, including: a mass spectrometer coupled to a liquid chromatograph; an optical set with a femtosecond optical fibre laser, a fibre processing station and a spectrum analyser; and a system for recording and analysing mechanical surface loads in biological systems.

The MEiN has also awarded PLN 6 million for the redevelopment of the Hydro building. The modernisation of one of the three buildings of the civil and environmental engineering faculty consists in the adaptation of rooms for scientific and research, teaching, laboratory, office and storage purposes, together with the necessary sanitary facilities.
