An invention by a group of chemists from Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń has won four medals at international fairs in Poland, Serbia, France and Taiwan. The team also received two special awards.

The invention is a method for obtaining hybrid carbon matrices with the addition of gamma radiation and melamine foams. With this component, a material enriched simultaneously in nitrogen and sulphur was obtained. The electrochemical properties of the material confirm that it could become an ideal replacement for expensive elements such as platinum or palladium.

The research group won gold medals in Bydgoszcz (E-INNOVATE International Innovation Show 2022), Serbia (Tesla Fest 2022) and Taiwan (Kaohsiung International Invention & Design EXPO). A silver medal was awarded to the invention at the Prix Eiffel in Paris. The team received special awards from Norton University of Cambodia and the World Intellectual Property and Invention Association.
