Conclusions of Polish scientists on COVID-19 in the United Nations report

The position of the COVID-19 advisory team to the president of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN) was presented in the United Nations report on science, technology and innovation for sustainable development.

The authors of the report “Emerging science, frontier technologies, and the SDGs – Perspectives from the UN system and science and technology communities” included tasks to facilitate a smooth recovery from a pandemic, which were formulated by members of the COVID-19 team in their statement no. 13 published at the end of March. Polish scientists call to strengthen the health service, invest in science and education, and build trust. They listed lessons such as:

  1. Strong and independent institutions are essential:

Task 1: Let’s invest in a modern health care system,

Task 2: Let’s build professional and independent expert institutions in the field of public health,

Task 3: Give experts access to data,

Task 4: Invest in science and education.

  1. We need a society of solidarity:

Task 5: Build Trust

Task 6: Let’s work together, the common good pays off to everyone,

Task 7: Let’s learn to live in a pandemic,

Task 8: Make Political Choices With Long Term Thinking.
