A meeting of the initiators of the National Agreement of Doctoral Schools with Deputy Minister Maciej Gdula and Deputy Director of the Department of Science Tomasz Piotrowski took place at the Ministry of Science and Higher Education.

Doctoral schools were represented by Dr Ilona Świątek-Barylska, Prof. UŁ – Chairwoman of the Steering Committee of the Covenant and Director of the Doctoral School in Social Sciences at the University of Łódź (UŁ), Prof. Krzysztof Walkowiak – Dean of the Doctoral School at Wrocław University of Technology and Dr Jarosław Korpysa, Director of the Doctoral School at the University of Szczecin (US).

The National Covenant of Doctoral Schools has so far been signed by 35 rectors of higher education institutions and has an open character.

Dr Ilona Świątek-Barylska, Professor at the University of Łódź, emphasised that she regarded the invitation to the meeting at the Ministry of Science as an important signal of the importance the Ministry attaches to the training of young scientific staff.

“In view of the fact that Poland is in penultimate place in the EU in terms of the number of doctoral students per 1,000 inhabitants, cooperation in this area seems indispensable. The data and opinions we presented were of great interest to the Minister”, she informed.
