Emergency medicine specialists and surgeons from The University of Toledo in Ohio (USA) conducted a series of training courses on ATLS (Advanced Trauma Life Support) procedures – advanced life-saving procedures for adults and children at the Medical Emergency Department of the Medical University of Warsaw (MUW).
“The trainings primarily cover the implementation of critical procedures and the assessment of the patient who has suffered injuries, whether as a result of a traffic accident, or as a result of a fire, act of terror, attack with the use of dangerous tools or weapons”, says Dr Marcin Podgórski from the Medical Rescue Department of the Medical University of Warsaw. He emphasizes that during training, great emphasis is placed on communication within the team.
‘Such a course teaches patterns of how to deal with the patient, which minimizes the risk of omitting elements that may be of key importance for his safety”, summarizes Dr Podgórski.
The Americans trained a total of 32 medical staff – 24 from Poland and 8 from Ukraine.
