Dr Daryna Sokolova from the interuniversity department of biotechnology at the University of Gdansk and the Medical University of Gdansk has won an EMBO Solidarity Grant. Her research is part of the National Science Centre’s Sonata Bis project ‘Friends or Foes? The role of prophages in environmental adaptation and virulence of pectinolytic bacteria: Dickeya spp and Pectobacterium spp. in vitro and in planta’.
EMBO Solidarity Grants is a competition for refugee scientists from Ukraine to carry out research in one of the European countries Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Poland, Slovenia and Turkey. This competition was launched by EMBO in response to the Russian aggression against Ukraine and the ongoing war there.
The beneficiary receives funding for an annual salary (€36,000). This funding allows a scientist from Ukraine to be involved in research carried out by a selected research group at scientific institutions in one of the above-mentioned countries.
