According to the Ministry of Education and Science with the participation of Minister Przemysław Czarnek, 283 entities participated in the evaluation of the quality of scientific activity for 2017-2021, including: 103 public universities, 29 non-public universities, 5 church universities, 2 federations, 69 scientific institutes of the Polish Academy of Sciences, 64 research institutes, an international institute and 10 other entities operating research in an independent and continuous manner.

The Act – Law on Higher Education and Science introduced new provisions on the evaluation of the quality of scientific activity of universities, research institutes, research institutes and other entities of the higher education and science system, carried out every 4 years.

As a result of evaluation, scientific categories are awarded in individual scientific and artistic disciplines assuming the possibility of conducting general-academic studies and awarding academic degrees, as well as the number of subsidies. The first evaluation covered the years 2017-2021 and started on January 1, 2022.
