Foundation Institute for Market and Social Research examined the image of Polish science in Poland and abroad

14.08.2020

The Foundation Institute for Market and Social Research (IBRIS) has carried out the first project concerning the branding of Polish science. “The image of Polish science in the country and abroad – diagnosis of effectiveness and long-term support measures”, financed by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education under the DIALOG program.

The conducted research has shown that a significant percentage of the Polish are unable to identify inventions created by Polish scientists – as many as 46% of Poles admit that they do not know devices or products discovered by Polish scientists. Less than half of Poles declare that they know inventions discovered by their compatriots (43%).

The knowledge of Polish discoveries outside Poland is also not high: it is declared by 22% of the inhabitants of the European Union countries and 20% of the inhabitants of the USA. However, despite these declarations, only some of the people who indicated that they know Polish inventions were able to spontaneously name any Polish invention.
