The branch of the German Fraunhofer Institute – one of the largest research organizations in the world and the inventor of the MP3 format – will be created at the Opole University of Technology. The work on the details of the agreement, business plan, budget and program assumptions of the Fraunhofer Project Center is expected to be completed soon.
The Project partners are the Opole Science and Technology Park and the Technical University in Chemnitz. The Opole branch of the Institute is to deal with “slimming” of cars – research on the use of lightweight constructions in their production. Lighter cars will burn less fuel and emit less carbon dioxide so they will become more ecological.
The Fraunhofer Institute is one of the largest, most innovative and important scientific organizations supporting industry in Europe. Founded in 1949, the Fraunhofer Society brings together nearly 70 German scientific organizations, with 30,000 scientists and with the research budget of billions of euros per year.
