Gdansk doctors win award for best team for lung cancer diagnosis and treatment in Europe

A team of doctors, nurses and coordinators from the University Clinical Centre, the clinical hospital of the Medical University of Gdansk, has won the award for the best team for the diagnosis and treatment of lung cancer in Europe from the International Association for the Study on Lung Cancer (IASLC). 

IASLC is the world’s largest lung cancer organisation. It brings together more than 10,500 members – biologists, nurses and physicians working on this cancer. The conference in Singapore was attended by 5 600 delegates from 60 countries around the world, reports the University of Gdansk.

Criteria for selecting the winners included patient trust, cooperation in treatment decisions and empathy shown to the patient. The patient’s access to care and treatment options, the quality of communication between medics and the patient, the extent of information provided to the patient and the effectiveness of diagnosis and treatment were also taken into account.
