Scientists from the Gdańsk University of Technology, together with employees of the Gdańsk City Hall are planning to rebuild the tram terminus in Gdańsk-Oliwa. There will become a “green laboratory” for research on the prototyping of ecological and self-sufficient public spaces in the city.
Thanks to the reconstruction, the previously undeveloped area inside the terminus will become a safer and more visually attractive place for passengers using public transport, and will also serve to research the flow of people and pro-ecological solutions for the development of public spaces in the city.
The concept of a “green waiting room” at the Oliwa terminus was created as part of the international research project SUGI FWE Nexus Crunch, which is coordinated by the University of Portsmouth in Great Britain, in which world cities (including Eindhoven, Taipei, Miami and Uppsala) are looking for ecological solutions.
