The Academic Psychological Support Center of the University of Gdańsk examined four educational institutions in Gdańsk, where in 2021 there were so-called suicidal events. Students, teachers and parents were examined.

The preliminary results show that the most common causes of suicide attempt among children and adolescents are the lack of support from the immediate environment, violence, lack of understanding, bulling, drugs, debts, superficial relations, low mental resistance, mental disorders and diseases. The data also shows that girls show a worse mental state than boys. Young people have big problems with communication, adaptation and acceptance.

“The mental state assessment in schools shows that it is worse than a few years ago. Our research has shown that students’ problems were revealed even before the pandemic, although this is additionally perceived as a traumatic event”, says Agata Rudnik, PhD, director of the Academic Psychological Support Center.
