Students from the architecture department of the Gdansk University of Technology, Jan Momot, and Mateusz Pludowski, won first place in the international PLEA Sustainability & Resilience Student Design Competition 2024. Their project ‘Circadian retreat house in Bieszczady’ was awarded in the ‘Definition scale’ category (building or enclosed public space).

During their design work, the winners analysed how to design the form of the building to reduce the consumption of electric lighting in favour of daylighting, which influences the correct functioning of the circadian rhythms of the users.

Their approach, characterised by design sensitivity to users’ needs and bio-efficient solutions, not only stood out from the other entries, but also demonstrated the students’ advanced knowledge and skills in sustainable architecture.
