The MMB Team from Gdańsk, composed mostly of graduates of the Gdańsk University of Technology, led by Prof. Zbigniew Krzemiński, a long-time employee of the electrical engineering and automation department, became the winner of the “Great Challenge: Energy” competition, the final of which took place on October 16 at the PGE National stadium. The team won PLN 1 million for the best prototype of a home wind farm.
The wind farm created by the Gdańsk team is equipped with a turbine with a high-power factor. Each stage of energy conversion is developed to be highly efficient. It uses algorithms for optimal control of the turbine in steady states with regard to energy storage. The device works without power reduction in strong winds and uses the maximum amount of wind energy.
The competition was organized by the National Center for Research and Development thanks to the support of European Funds under the Smart Growth Program.
