Kamila Rogaczewska and Katarzyna Kobierska, graduates of landscape architecture at the University of Life Sciences in Wrocław, won in the category of projects completed in the competition of the European Association of Landscape Architects (International Federation of Landscape Architects).

The winning project, implemented in the Port Popowice housing estate in Wrocław, is based on ecological engineering principles. The authors used various landscape engineering methods to create rain gardens and introduce trees and shrubs. When designing the selection of plants, they were inspired by Wroclaw’s wastelands, and among the species in the flowerbeds, one can find, for example, the water tansy.

The team created a semi-natural environment using native plants considered to be weeds, thus changing the approach of the aesthetics of public spaces. The used colour scheme is consistent with the tones of the facades of the buildings, the outdoor facilities, the estate alleys and the materials used.
