The master’s thesis of Jakub Orzechowski from Wrocław University of Science and Technology has been awarded in a competition held by the President of the Polish Space Agency. The graduate of the Faculty of Fundamental Technological Problems was awarded for his ‘Project of a space telescope for Earth observation from low Earth orbit’.

The telescope will be used to observe the Earth from low Earth orbit and meet the requirements for mapping quality and remote sensing parameters. The entire optical system fits into a 10x10x10 cm cube.

“My task was to design and simulate the operation of an optical system whose dimensions and weight would allow to be placed in a CubeSat satellite,” says the laureate.

Jakub Orzechowski graduated from the optical and photonic engineering specialisation conducted at the Faculty of Fundamental Technological Problems. He works at Scanway, where he is responsible for designing optical systems for Earth observation satellites.
