A team of researchers at the Jagiellonian University (UJ) in Krakow, led by Dr Małgorzata Piasecka of the UJ Faculty of Philosophy, has developed the first version of a handbook aimed at Prison Service officers entitled. “Prevention of suicide among the persons deprived of liberty”.

The aim of the publication is to support the reduction of suicide and suicide attempts among persons deprived of their liberty. According to the UJ, undoubtedly the strong point of the publication is its practical value, as the content contained in the guide can be used in the daily work of prison officers and employees who have direct contact with prisoners.

The publication of the guide was published by the Oficyna Wydawnicza Impuls. The book contains 6 articles: “Self-harm and suicide”, “Suicide of inmates in penitentiary units”, “Risk factors of suicidal behaviour and protective factors”, “Co-occurrence of mental disorders with suicide risk”, “Suicide prevention system of persons deprived of liberty” and “Interventions towards inmates in suicidal crisis”.
