On 6-7 December 2022. The Department of Aesthetics and Philosophy of Culture and the Department of the History of Philosophy and Comparative Philosophy at the Institute of Philosophy of Maria Curie Skłodowska University (UMCS) in Lublin are organising an international online scientific conference ‘Stranger, Other… Enemy? Strangeness and Otherness in the Humanities”.
The conference issues include: Otherness and alienness in philosophical perspective (European and non-European philosophy); Others and strangers in religious perspective, also in relation to human spirituality; Alienness and otherness in literature and art (also in popular culture); Is the Other (always) an alien? Under what circumstances and why do we recognise the Other as an Alien?; Traditional representations of strangers – in folklore, religious experience, speech (language).
The event will bring together scholars representing different academic centres and cultural experiences to address the issue of otherness and strangeness from a humanities perspective.
