An innovative reactor for the pyrolysis of unsorted industrial and municipal waste created at Gdansk University of Technology has won the main prize and a special prize from the Minister of Education and Science in the XXV edition of the Polish Product of the Future Competition.

The pyrolysis of waste in the reactor produces syngas, i.e. a gas containing, among other things, methane, carbon monoxide and a very large amount of hydrogen. This is followed by the separation of the syngas, which results in one of the most desirable sources of green energy, i.e. pure hydrogen. The process also results in a carbonate containing 60-80 % pure carbon, which can be used for heating purposes or in many other technological processes.

The technology is highly environmentally friendly and is a viable alternative to extracting conventional fossil fuels. The invention has been patented in Poland and has been filed for patenting in an international procedure.
