Invention of the Institute of Non-Ferrous Metals receives the medal of the Eureka 2019 competition in Valencia

31.10.2019

Researchers from the Department of Functional Materials of the Łukasiewicz Research Network – the Institute of Non-Ferrous Metals won the gold medal in the 68th International Competition Eureka2019 in Spanish Valencia.

The awarded technology is used to produce nanocrystalline multi-gap cores for filter chokes to improve the quality of electricity and reduce the negative impact on the environment. It aims to improve the life of energy machinery and equipment and reduce noise, with the possibility of storing energy, improving its quality and reducing the negative impact of energy on the environment.

Low-loss chokes are designed for use in many applications in the field of energy, in which the operating parameters of the core eliminate the use of classic transformer steel, while it is impossible to use ferrite materials. The benefits of their use are a reduction of the choke weight by 40 percent. and a reduction of total power loss in the choke by 42%
