The three Upper Silesian institutes of the Łukasiewicz Research Network have joined forces to form a single, larger and interdisciplinary unit including Łukasiewicz – Welding Institute, Łukasiewicz – Institute of Ferrous Metallurgy and Łukasiewicz – Institute of Electrical Drives and Machines KOMEL act together as Łukasiewicz – Upper Silesian Institute of Technology.
The benefits of the merger primarily concern the research division in terms of the possibility of acquiring projects, extending the R&D offer and the scope of commercialisation, as well as staff development and optimising the use of equipment. The organisational changes will also allow the preparation of a broader portfolio of projects for the energy, defence, space and transport sectors.
The merger will also benefit the expansion of the research infrastructure. Plans include the creation of unique laboratories, including a hydrogen laboratory, and the development of advanced research methods, reports the Łukasiewicz Research Network.
