Joint discovery of Polish and German scientists in the Tatras

07.05.2018

Dr Paweł M. Owsianny from the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań together with scientists from Germany discovered new species of algae in the Tatra National Park. The obtained research results allow to include the Tatra Mountains as one of the European centers of biodiversity to the areas of “emerging” new species.

Research in the Tatra National Park is carried out by the Nadnotecki Institute of the Adam Mickiewicz University in Piła, with the support of the Nord Foundation and the Handicapped Scuba Association (HSA) “Step by Step”. Two of the discovered species of dinoflagellata (Dinoflagellata) were named Parvodinium marciniakii and Parvodinium trawinskii after Piła scientists – Grzegorz Marciniak and Krzysztof Trawiński.

Researches of the Dr. Owsianny team are conducted in cooperation with the research group of Prof. Marc Gottschling from the Ludwig and Maximilian University in Munich.
