Krakow students to solve the problem of space debris

03.03.2021

Students of the AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow will conduct experiments related to catching space debris from orbit around the Earth.

The experiment assumes developing an algorithm that analyzes the movement and manner of movement of such objects. The experiment will be performed on the drop tower of the University of Bremen.

AGH students will conduct experiments as part of the “Drop Your Thesis!” Competition organized by the European Space Agency (ESA) that they have won recently. The aim of their project called Black Spheres is to develop a method of catching space debris from orbit around the Earth.

-We hope that the results obtained during the experiments will solve the urgent and growing problem of space debris. This is another interesting initiative in the area of the space industry, in which we would like to get involved, especially as the European Space University, which AGH UST has been named in since last year – said the supervisor of the Black Spheres project, Dr Paweł Zagórski.
