In cooperation with the Association of Lodz Beekeepers, this spring, the Library of the University of Lodz (UŁ) will put an apiary od five hives, on its roof. The initiative called Beeblioteka UniLodz is carried out as part of the 75th anniversary of the university celebrated last year and as a part of good eco practices.
The planned date for the installation of hives is the beginning of April. They will be inhabited at the turn of April and May, when it gets warmer outside. Since then, they will be under the close care of professional beekeepers. In summer, in one hive, a bee colony can grow up to 80,000 bees.
-The University of Lodz is becoming “greener and greener”. This is one of our priorities. The campus is not only a place of study and work, but also a part of the urban area, which should cooperate with nature in the best possible way, also for our benefit. I already invite you to the opening of our first university apiary – said Prof. Elżbieta Żądzińska, rector of the University of Łódź.
