The Lodz University of Technology’s scientists will conduct advanced research on biological agents that inhibit the storage fruit and vegetable diseases and influence on the condition of the honey bees.

Each year up to 40% world crops are destroyed by plant pests. In financial terms, annual losses caused by plant diseases in the global economy are estimated at about $ 220 billion – explains Dr Eng. Dorota Kręgiel, professor at the Department of Environmental Biotechnology at the Faculty of Biotechnology and Food Sciences of the Lodz University of Technology, conducting research on plant protection.

-Pests and diseases do not have passports or meet immigration requirements, and thus preventing the spread of such organisms is an important international undertaking that requires the cooperation of all countries in the world – adds Dr Eng. Kręgiel.

Researchers from the Lodz University of Technology believe that there is a great opportunity to develop the market of available, safe and, above all, effective natural plant protection products.
